Vital farms long term operating margin guidance

At its Investor Day in December 2025, Vital Farms management established 2030 as its new long-term planning horizon and updated its financial targets.

While the company does not typically provide a strict GAAP "operating margin" target, it relies on Adjusted EBITDA margin as its primary proxy for long-term operating profitability.

Here is Vital Farms' official long-term margin guidance:

  • Adjusted EBITDA Margin: The company is targeting an Adjusted EBITDA margin between 15% and 17% by 2030.
  • Gross Margin: Management expects to maintain a gross margin of 35% or greater between 2025 and 2030.

(Note: They also set a top-line target of reaching $2 billion in annual net revenue by 2030).

The 2026 Short-Term "Reset" Context

It is important to note that while these remain the official long-term targets, the company is currently experiencing severe short-term margin compression. Due to the massive oversupply in the broader egg market and the need to increase promotional pricing, Vital Farms saw its gross margin drop to 28.3% in Q1 2026, and they drastically cut their full-year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance.

However, management has framed 2026 as a cyclical "low-water mark." They have communicated to investors that through right-sizing their supply, reducing costs, and natural market stabilization, they expect their margins to begin recovering in 2027 and remain committed to hitting their 2030 long-term targets.
